Helsinki, Finland based Clunks are a four piece alternative rock band channeling raw energies and emotions thru passionate and catchy songs. The band is bound together by strong friendships and love for rock’n roll. Their shared musical history spans several years and the brothers Ilari (gtr) and Tapio (vox/gtr) have been making music since childhood in the countryside of western Finland. The band’s sound is a mixture of the classic rock aesthetics, 90’s punk rock attitude and Brit pops melodic sensibility.
They recently released their debut single so we asked them some question.
What is your all-time favorite song?
We have several all-time favourites. The Clash’s London Calling is a good one. It’s just a tune that you never get tired of.
Which song is perfect for a Road Trip?
The Only Ones – Another Girl Another Planet. You hear this and you just want to hit the road.
To which song do you like to clean?
Any decent folk song will do. Somehow folk and cleaning just go hand in hand haha.
What’s the perfect song to wake up with?
Kanye West – Good Morning. It’s mellow enough but still gets you going.
What’s your favorite artist from your home city?
Everyone should check out Alma, she’s got attitude. She’ll blow up any time now, so keep an eye on her. We also have several great indie bands in Helsinki. Retro Station to name one.
Which artist do you think is too underrated and which one is overrated?
Rubik, also a Helsinki-based band, that sadly has already called it quits, were severely underrated! They were groovy, melodic and fun to watch live. Overrated? Well, maybe PSY.
If you could be one artist for a day, who would that be?
It’d be really interesting to have been with Fleetwood Mac back in the day. Who wouldn’t want to witness classics being made, right?
What’s the best song to make love to?
W.A.S.P’s Animal (Fuck Like a Beast) was the first song that popped up when we discussed this question so we’ll just leave this with that.
What’s the most beautiful lyric you’ve ever heard?
The Smiths There is a Light That Never Goes Out comes close. Words and melodies just collide in a harrowingly beautiful way in that one.
At which place would you love to play a concert?
On top of a skyscraper in NYC. That would just be a dream come true. You can’t get much higher than that!
