Multi-instrumentalist Jack Ellis is set to release his new single The Storm out July 1st 2016 via District South Records.
Held together beautifully by Jack’s wonderful guitar playing and emotive vocals The Storm is a song that tackles themes of love and loss, as snapshots in our life strip us bare, leaving us afraid of allowing ourselves to love again. While growing up Jack was influenced by the likes of Jeff Buckley and REM and has taken on board their unerring ability to write and producing relatable yet emotional music, something which impressively shines through in the passion he puts into his music.
We asked this amazing singer-songwriter some questions!
What is your all-time favorite song?
I’d say it varies continuously as I’m always hearing something new, the same with my own music, I’m always waiting for whats next and new…..but right now it is “Kaleo – Way Down We Go”, a fabulous icelandic group that are throwing some great music out there. Go check them out!
Which song is perfect for a Road Trip?
A great summer song to a road trip to me would be “Hey Sholay – Wishbone”, quite a weird choice, but it’s an exciting build to a song and can imagine road tripping to this!
To which song do you like to clean?
Half Moon Run Album Dark Eyes, That always seems to be the choice, the adventure of cleaning hey? its quite an adventurous album!
What’s the perfect song to wake up with?
It used to be “Ben Howard – I Will Be Blessed”, as it laid as my alarm for way too long, now it is the least perfect song to wake up to knowing that alarmed me to work hundreds and hundreds of times!
What’s your favorite artist from your home city?
Them Dead Beats are well worth a watch, they are as mad as it gets, exploding with blues riffs and some crazy ass drumming, this two piece are more exciting than most bands I’ve been to see lately.
Which artist do you think is too underrated and which one is overrated?
Overrated is Drake, most mainstream shit thats brainwashing the kids of today(Wow I sound old), and underrated is probably the pure talent out there, singer/songwriters with real stories that never make it due to keeping their soul and dignity.
If you could be one artist for a day, who would that be?
Drake, I just need to know what that man thinks.
What’s the best song to make love to? (…to ask someone out?)
Alt J Album, its been used, it worked.
What’s the most beautiful lyric you’ve ever heard?
“You could be my favourite place, I’ve ever been, I got lost in your willingness to dream within a dream” It’s a pretty deep dark pretty song, “Damien Rice – My Favourite Faded Fantasy”. I like the contrast between the dark minor chords to the beautiful falsetto vocals giving depth and emotion to it. I do sometimes clean to this album too! They should ask me more cleaning questions!!
At which place would you love to play a concert?
A colosseum in Rome, I seen a concert there of a pretty heavy band and the surroundings and atmosphere was incredible. I think a gig in that certain atmosphere is unbeatable.
