Cut Ribbons from Llanelli released their first EP “Bound In Love” in 2013. The band played festivals like Reading and Leeds, Boardmasters, and SWN and supported the likes of The Joy Formidable and Dry The River. After some line up changes and EP/ single releases, 2015 was the year that they found stability and released their first album “We Want To Watch Something We Loved Burn”. This summer has seen them play countless festivals and gain national radio play. With their debut-album out they plan to tour it extensively. You can listen to the entire album here.

We decided to ask them some questions about their taste of music.
What is your all-time favourite song and why?
Roy Orbison – In Dreams. Sung beautifully, lyrically flawless and unconventional in its structure, it’s such a moving piece of music. Apparently The Big O heard this song being sung to him by Elvis in a dream. It also brings to mind David Lynch’s ‘Blue Velvet’.
What song is perfect for a Road Trip?
Tame Impala – Let it happen. This song has helped soundtrack many van trips to gigs and festivals this year. Kevin Parker can do no wrong at the moment. Its kaleidoscopic, has a killer groove and the production is amazing too. One of my favorite songs of the year.
On which song do you like to clean?
Jamie xx – Loud Places. Another huge song from this year, it can make even the most mundane tasks seem fun while listening to it.
What’s the perfect song to wake up with?
Caribou – Can’t Do Without You. It’s such an awesome feel good tune. It starts off small and just gets bigger and bigger and swells to a massive ending. By the end of it you’re up and ready to go. I’ve played this repeatedly this past summer
What’s your favorite artist from your home city?
Manic Street Preachers. Not from our city but from the same country as us. They’re been through crushing lows and soaring highs and they make us proud to be Welsh. We saw them play their best album ‘The Holy Bible’ in full at Cardiff castle this past June, it was magical.
Which artist do you think is to underrated and which one is overrated?
Underrated – Super Fury Animals. They should have been as big as Blur. Gruff (singer) is one of the most innovative musicians of his generation. Their live shows are unrivalled.
Overrated – Catfish and the bottlemen or any of the other countless chauvinistic / sexist lad rock bands.
If you could be one artist for a day, who would that be?
Father John Misty. He’s super smart and devilishly handsome. His live shows look like so much fun and he’s put out one of the best albums of the year in ‘I Love You, Honeybear’. We can’t wait for his next album already, the man is clearly a genius.
What’s the best song to make love to? (…to ask someone out?)
My Bloody Valentine – Only Shallow. Its sensual and euphoric, and perhaps Shoegaze’s crowning moment. It’s the sound of lust and longing. There will never be another album like ‘Loveless’.
What’s the most beautiful lyric you’ve ever heard? What’s so pretty about it?
It’s either “Give in to lust, give up to lust. Heaven knows we’ll soon be dust” by The Smiths or “I’m never going to know you now / but I’m going to love you anyhow” by Elliott Smith.
At which place would you love to play a concert?
A tour of the US is next on the wish list. And of course Belgium! Both because we have’t been there yet.

Cut Ribbons is een band afkomstig uit Llanelli (Wales) die hun eerste EP “Bound In Love” in 2013 uitbracht. De band speelde toen optreden op onder meer Reading en Leeds, Boardmasters en SWN. Daarnaast waren ze ook voorprogramma van The Joy Formidable en Dry The River. Na enkele wijzigingen in hun opstelling en verschillende EP en singles uit te brengen vond de band in 2015 stabiliteit. Het was dan ook het perfecte moment om hun debuutalbum “We Want To Watch Something We Loved Burn” uit te brengen. In de zomer speelde de band ontelbaar veel festivals en werden hun nummer op de radio gespeeld. Nu hun debuutalbum uit is plant de band nog meer concerten, je kan het album hier volledig beluisteren.

Wat is jullie favoriete nummer en waarom?
Roy Orbison – In Dreams. Mooi gezongen, foutloze songtekst en een onconventionele structuur. Het is een zeer ontroerend stukje muziek. Blijkbaar hoorde Roy het nummer in zijn droom gezongen worden door Elvis, het nummer doet ook sterk denken aan David Lynch’s “Blue Velvet”.
Wat is het perfecte nummer voor een roadtrip?
Tame Impala – Let it happen. Het nummer was bij veel ritten naar concerten en festivals de soundtrack. Kevin Parker kan niets misdoen. Het is caleidoscopisch, heeft een moordende groove en een geweldige productie. Het is een van mijn favoriete nummers van het jaar.
Op welk nummer maak je graag schoon?
Jamie xx – Loud Places. Nog zo’n groots nummer van dit jaar, het kan zelfs de meest onaangename taken leuk maken
Wat is het perfecte nummer om mee wakker te worden?
Caribou – Can’t Do Without You. Een geweldig feel good nummer. Het begint zeer klein maar wordt steeds groter en groter eindigend in een gigantisch einde. Op het einde ben je wakker en klaar om te starten. Ik heb het nummer herhaaldelijk gespeeld de afgelopen zomer.
