Groove and melody. This group of four young thirty-year-olds makes people sway and muse with their six-track debut album ‘Blueprints’. One of the main reasons is singer Sara Moonen with her agile alto voice. She, like an unpredictable feline – sometimes flattering, sometimes sulking, derives energy from mood changes. Whether she sounds languorously or whether she explicitly seeks out suspense there is always that subtle strive for balance. Even often within the same composition.
The first EP ‘Blueprints’ was recorded in the Low Man’s Land-studio (Brussels, BE) with Antoine Thonon and mastered with Sebastien Lorho, Near Deaf Experience (Morlaix, FR). It features guest musicians such as a classic string quartet with Claire Bourdet, Emilie Koang, Sebastien Taminiau & Karel Coninckx and jazz trumpeter Laurent Blondiau. In the meanwhile scenario-writer Iwona Pom and cameraman Bert Minnen made a suiting video clip for ‘Fishy five’. Apart from the video clip, leading producer Gilles Peterson noticed the catchy song and played it several of his programs in the UK and France.
One aspect on which all the members agree is the existence of a ‘whocatsound’. “It is not a genre,” the band emphasizes. “The name suggests a journey. It’s fun to combine different influences as long as there is room for each of us to add something of our own.” The eclectic choice of musicians consisted of Joris Lindeman as bassist /backing vocalist, Benoit Minon as guitarist/backing vocalist and Davy Palumbo as drummer-percussionist/ backing vocalist. They are all active in the jazz-, world-, rock- and chanson circuit.
